Mum Foods built its name on farmers'-market pastrami before opening a brick-and-mortar smokehouse and delicatessen on far east Manor Road. The result is a rare Austin hybrid — a place that speaks both New York deli and Central Texas barbecue fluently — and Texas Monthly named it to the 2025 Top 50 on the strength of that dual identity.
The pastrami is the headliner, brined and smoked then piled high on house-made rye, and it has been called the best in Texas by people who take that claim seriously. Alongside it, the brisket holds classic Central Texas form with a firm bark, the matzo ball soup brings genuine deli comfort, and the shells and cheese round out a menu that refuses to choose between two traditions.
