Valentina's Tex Mex BBQ is a barbecue restaurant in Austin, Texas.
Miguel Vidal's Valentina's is the most uniquely Austin barbecue experience in the city — a fusion of Central Texas smoke and Tex-Mex tradition that shouldn't work on paper and is transcendent in practice. The trailer-turned-institution on Menchaca proved that oak-smoked brisket and a handmade flour tortilla belong on the same plate, and the lines out front are the pride, not the burden.
The brisket is smoked over oak, then folded into tacos rather than piled on butcher paper. The Real Deal Holyfield — brisket, egg, and cheese on a handmade tortilla — is one of the great Austin breakfasts, and the El Sancho and brisket queso extend the Tex-Mex range. Smoked sausage rounds out the board. When the meat is gone, it's gone; that scarcity is part of the charm of a place that fused two of Texas's proudest traditions into one.
